London Buses route 381

London Buses route 381 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Peckham and County Hall, it is operated by Abellio London.
==History==
Route 381 started life as route P11, following much of the same route, with only a few diversions. The P11 "Peckham Hopper" itself was a renumbering of the Peckham to Waterloo section of the 70/70A routes on 19 November 1988. The other sections were covered by route P12 and new roads served by route P13, creating a new Peckham network of minibus routes, using Optare StarRider bodied Mercedes-Benz 811D 26 seater minibuses. Those on the P11 were replaced in 1991 by larger Dennis Darts, but these were still not big enough, and the P11 was eventually converted to double-deck operation with nine Volvo Olympians and five Leyland Titans in 1995.
On 9 October 1999 route P11 was renumbered 381, so that a night route N381 (running beyond Waterloo to Trafalgar Square via Westminster Bridge) could be added - rather than a potentially confusing NP11. It was originally operated by London Central, passing to Travel London on 9 October 2004 after being re-tendered.〔(Bus tender results Route 381/N381 ) Transport for London 15 March 2004〕 The route travels via a circuitous route, almost looping back on itself several times.
In February 2008, the service gained an extra three buses to run between Canada Water and London Bridge, increasing the frequency of the route by an additional bus every 20 minutes over the section. This replaced the withdrawn route ELP while the East London Line was closed.〔(Extra buses on routes 381 and C10 ) ''London se1'' 17 March 2008〕〔(All change on the East London Line ) ''BBC London'' May 2008〕
Route 381 was included in the sale of Travel London to Abellio London in May 2009.〔(National Express Group plc agreement to sell Travel London ) National Express Group 21 May 2009〕〔(NedRailways acquisition reinforces long term commitment to UK transport market ) NedRailways 9 June 2009〕
Just before the sale, Travel London's tender to retain the route was successful, with Abellio London commencing a new contract in October 2009.〔(Bus tender results Route 381/N381 ) Transport for London 13 May 2009〕
In January 2015, Route 381 saw preserved Routemaster RM54 in regular use.
